On a clear February Friday night, 3 of us left Wiesbaden, Germany to drive to Paris, France for the weekend. After some traffic jams, due to road construction, we got to Paris and eventually wandered around looking for the hotel. We found a bridge named the same as the street name we were looking for, so we assumed that the street it became would be the same name.
But after not finding our hotel on this street, we finally gave up and asked a doorman at a hotel near the Eiffel tower where our lowly Holiday Inn hotel was. As it turned out, we were only one street off. After checking in, we drove our car onto an elevator (which was only wider than the car by about a foot) and went down a few floors to a very small parking area. The marked spaces were full, so we parked in a wide hallway leading to the laundry area.
We awoke on Saturday to a Spring-like day. The weather was warm, about mid-50 degrees F and the sun was shining. I think most of Paris was outside enjoying this temporary repreive from Winter.
We
hiked off to the Louvre.
After waiting in line for awhile at the controversial pyramid, we
entered a world that, for me, was unbelievable.
I'm not a big art fan, but I was mesmorized by the beauty and history contained in these buildings.
The highlight for me was seeing the Mona Lisa. It was a smaller painting than I had imagined.
We spent about 3 hours going through the Louvre. I estimate that it would take at least a week to fully appreciate it, and if art is your thing, I'd guess you could go there every day of your life. It was unforgettable.
