Troy House Spring '01

We finally found a 2 story house in Troy. This was at the peak of Troy's popularity and houses were being sold in less than a week for full asking price. So we acted fast to get this 2175 square foot 4 bedroom house.

Since moving in we have made a lot of changes. I can't even remember in what order they happened, but here are some of the updates:

  • Had the faded white aluminum siding painted tan, and the shutters painted red.
  • Eventually added a new tan roof.
  • The dark paneling was removed in the family room and replaced with drywall.
  • New contemporary oak banisters replaced the painted wrought iron railing for the stairs.
  • New ceramic tile was laid in the entrance hall.
  • The den was remodeled (by removing the walk-in pantry in the kitchen), adding a L-shaped table top for the computer. New oak cabinets were added for out of sight storage.
  • An in-ground pool was installed in place of the back yard - along with all new landscaping in the rear. A new rectangular deck was added between the family room and the pool.

  • The kitchen was totally remodeled. Had new white cabinets installed, resized the window above the sink, removed the window in the former dining area and added another doorwall to the pool. The U-shaped arrangement was replaced with a center island with seating. All new appliances (except the dishwasher - that was just replace in November 99). The half wall between the kitchen and family room was removed. The floor was ceramic tiled (as well as in the downstairs bathroom and laundry room). In the poor shot below, you can see the work in progress, still needed painting, finish installing the ceiling lights and tiling the backsplash.

  • The brick face of the fireplace in the family room was removed and a contemporary granite face, which is the background for this page, was installed (after more drywall work). Gas logs replaced the mess and inconvience of real wood.
  • A new white vanity was added in the downstairs bathroom.
  • Then the walls in kitchen and family were painted with a feather duster - giving a 3 color white, light grey and medium grey effect that is gorgeous.
  • Spring of 99 a hot tub was added outside - adjacent to the corner of the pool.

  • In the summer of 2000, I built a patio outside the "new" sliding glass door that was addded during the kitchen remodel. I also made flower boxes and trellis work to hide the air conditioner and pool heater, pump and filter. Also shown in the photo below is our new barbeque.
